Most visitors to Hawaii are not aware that we have a native owl that lives in the upper elevations of the islands. The pueo is one of the various nā ʻaumākua (ancestor spirits) in Hawaiian culture and is sadly declining rapidly in population. Pueo are now listed as an endangered species
