The "Violin Formula": Spruce and Maple

Several Hundred years ago in Italy, as violin design was brought to maturity, luthiers settled upon a solid Spruce top with the rest of the body of the violin constructed of solid Maple. This wood formula produced the loudest, clearest and most resonant tone for the violin. This formula has been followed ever since by all the top violin makers with no one seriously experimenting new wood combinations. Happily for Ukulele players this Spruce top / Maple body works very well for an excellent Ukulele tone, loud bright and clear. We have many examples from several Ukulele makers -- check them out!
